Product Attributes
PPG Aerospace® PR-1425 B-2 Black Windshield Sealant from SkyGeek is designed to deliver a strong hold and excellent protection against air and moisture intrusion. The sealant has a rich black color, so it looks like a gasket around the windshield, delivering a professional finish when used to seal a windshield. PPG Aerospace® PR-1425 B-2 Black Windshield Sealant is easy to apply and has a service temperature range from -65°F to (-52°C) to 250°F (121°C), though it can withstand brief exposure to temperatures as high as 275°F (135°C). PPG Aerospace® 1425 Windshield Sealer is designed for fillet sealing applications and is well-suited for use on properly prepared glass, polycarbonate, acrylic and other aircraft substrates. When used as directed, PPG Aerospace® PR-1425 B-2 Black Windshield Sealant will not cause crazing. The cured product exhibits excellent resistance to UV and weather exposure.
PPG Aerospace® PR-1425 B-2 Black Windshield Gasket Sealant from SkyGeek is sold in a two-part kit with enough material to make one pint. The pre-measured components mix easily and the dichromate-cured polysulfide compound offers low sag, so it’s suitable for application by extrusion gun or spatula, even to vertical surfaces. The windshield sealant black has excellent adhesion to a variety of common aircraft substrates.

Note: The application and performance property values above are typical for the material, but not intended for use in specifications or for acceptance inspection criteria because of variations in testing methods, conditions and configurations.
Surface preparationImmediately before applying sealant to primed substrates, the surfaces should be cleaned with solvents. Contaminants such as dirt, grease, and/or processing lubricants must be removed prior to sealant application.
A progressive cleaning procedure should be employed using the appropriate solvents and new lint free cloth (reclaimed solvents or tissue paper should not be used). Always pour solvent on the cloth to avoid contaminating the solvent supply. Wash one small area at a time.
It is important that the surface is dried with a second clean cloth prior to the solvent evaporating to prevent the redeposition of contaminants on the substrate. Substrate composition can vary greatly. This can affect sealant adhesion. It is recommended that adhesion characteristics to a specific substrate be determined prior to application on production parts or assemblies.
For a more thorough discussion of proper surface preparation, please consult the SAE Aerospace Information Report AIR 4069. This document is available through SAE, 400 Commonwealth Avenue, Warrendale, PA 15096-0001.
